Description

Stay hands-free this farmers market season with your own custom-made flower bouquet bag. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn the basics of sewing while creating a custom bag that’s both functional and fashionable. Hosted by Kris, owner and founder of the local fashion brand Knockout by Kris, you’ll be guided through this project step-by-step. All fabric and materials will be provided. Bringing your own sewing machine is suggested, but three machines will be provided for those who do not have one. We hope you join us for a day spent stitching together joy and creativity!

Workshop Agenda

  1. Learn about the basics how to use a sewing machine
  2. Create your own bag to carry flower bouquets
  3. Meet likeminded creatives who share a joy for trying new things

Learning Tasks and Agenda:

  1. Review the basics of sewing (threading a machine, cutting fabric, and following a pattern)
  2. Participate in cutting out fabric and sewing pieces together
  3. Learn how to construct a functional bag out of fabric
  4. Develop an understanding of the benefits of slow, reusable fashion
  5. Engage in group discussion about creative dreams when it comes to sewing

Guiding Questions:

  1. What would I hope to be able to sew one day?
  2. How do I troubleshoot my sewing machine?
  3. What are the best practices for sewing a durable bag?
  4. How do I follow a sewing pattern?
  5. How can learning to sew benefit the environment and the people around me?

Reed’s Farm/Instructor will supply:

  1. Vintage floral cotton fabric
  2. Printed pattern for participants to keep
  3. Twill handles for bag straps
  4. Multicolor, all-purpose thread
  5. Three sewing machines for participants without a machine to share
  6. Scissors
  7. Rulers
