As the floodwaters receded, ENP was left with a stark reminder of the destruction. Landslides poured mud down the mountains, sweeping massive logs and uprooted trees into the sanctuary. Buildings were damaged, and what was once the elephants’ pasture has become a landscape of debris.
While this devastation must be cleared, the immediate priority has been cleaning and restoring the elephants’ shelters.
The next critical task is to relocate all the elephant night shelters to higher ground, a mission that must be completed swiftly before the next rainy season.
With flooding likely to worsen each year due to climate change, deforestation, and the loss of watershed forests, creating a safer environment is essential.
Thank you for standing with Lek and ENP as they work tirelessly to rebuild and ensure a secure future for the elephants. Your support has enabled an immediate response to this unprecedented disaster.
We will continue to keep you updated as the recovery progresses.
