Jana was passionate about rowing and about the Cape Fear River Rowing Club. She joined the Club in 2015 and served as President of the Board of Directors from 2019 - 2022. Under her leadership the Club grew its membership, added to its fleet of boats, made improvements to the dock and boathouse, and achieved recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Here are Jana's own words about her rowing journey:
"My rowing journey began in October 2014 when I happened to be in Boston during the Head of the Charles Regatta. I had never seen rowing in person and I was transfixed. It was like a beautiful ballet, choreographed and costumed, with an astonishing set and props. Despite the fact I had never played any sport, I decided I wanted to row. In early 2015 I put my name on the waitlist for Learn to Row. My spot finally came up in the August class with Coach Carolyn and I was hooked. The rest, as they say, is history."
Our Club will not be the same without Jana but her legacy and impact will remain with it always!
