Unfortunately, life isn’t always majestic for lions. In the wild, fewer than 20,000 remain. Their numbers have plummeted by more than 40% in recent decades due to habitat loss, poaching, and conflict with humans.

And here in the U.S., hundreds of lions are still living in private ownership, roadside zoos, and backyards—far from the savannas they were born to roam.
