The Dances We Dance (DWD) 2025 Fall Season will take place from November 20-23, 2025 at the Martha Graham Studio Theater in New York City. This will be one of the last performances at this historic place before the Graham company moves to another location in 2026.
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 5:30 pm.
This season, titled Harmonic Dissonance, brings together timeless masterworks with bold new creations, celebrating the dialogue between past and present:
Part I: Classical Dances features Doris Humphrey’s Air for the G String, re-staged by Gail Corbin, and Isadora Duncan’s choreography to Schubert’s Symphony No. 9—two luminous works that showcase the elegance, spirit, and vision of modern dance pioneers.
Part II: Harmonic Dissonance re-imagines Duncan’s powerful Scriabin Études. Artistic Director Francesca Todesco explores themes of grief, resilience, unity, and conflict through new solos, duets, and ensemble works. The title reflects the heart of this project: the coexistence of order and disorder, beauty and unrest—echoing both Scriabin’s music and Duncan’s vision.
The program also features Claudia Gitelman’s Schubert Impromptu, performed by the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, a vibrant tribute to Hanya Holm that merges lyricism with bold structural invention, and a new trio by company member Rosy Gentle, expanding the dialogue between tradition and innovation within the company itself.
With guest appearances by renowned artists Catherine Gallant (11/22), Rae Ballard (11/20-22), Gail Corbin (11/20-21), Lauren Naslund (11/22-23), Ian Spencer Bell (11/20-22), Oscar Antonio Rodriguez (11/23), and Faith Kimberling, this season is a celebration of intergenerational artistry, honoring the great innovators of modern dance while giving space for new voices to emerge.
