We are pleased to offer a free two-day training event. This training is aimed at Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking investigators. It is available in-person or virtual.

Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Victim Encounters: A Trauma Informed Approach for Law Enforcement

This two-day course will help unravel the complexities of child sexual exploitation and human trafficking victimization, their trauma and how to treat them with dignity, respect and empathy. Learn how to earn mutual trust and keep it through understanding how our actions affect victims and their non-offending families. Understand the why behind exhibited self-sabotaging and destructive behaviors and how trauma bonding affects victims and the proper responses. Learn how the neurobiology of trauma affects the brain and body. Hear case examples of how to apply these techniques in real world scenarios and how doing so will improve your investigations and the mental well-being of you and the victims you serve.

Instructors:

Lexie Smith, Survivor and Victim Advocate
Lexie Smith is a trauma-informed independent consultant who has worked in the anti-trafficking field since 2009 as a trainer and communications specialist. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Lee University in 2013 and has remained a student of neuropsychology ever since. Her lived experience as a survivor of CSAM and residential sex trafficking has amplified her talent in advocacy and education of the public. She has dedicated her career to increasing the effectiveness of non-profit organizations, law enforcement personnel, direct service providers, and those encountering victims regularly.
