Paint Your Own Islimi Plate!

Learn to paint an Islimi pattern in this beginner to intermediate workshop taught by Alexandria based Artist and Instructor Bridget Anthony-Hlioui, aka B A Hlioui Art. Bridget’s passion for patterns and world cultures has been featured in Alexandria’s very own Art on the Avenue and is gaining national recognition. And lucky for us, she loves to share all she knows in workshops! Bridget will walk you through the process as you choose to design your own plate or select one with a pre-drawn design to paint.

About the Workshop:
Islimi or Arabesque design is form of artistic decoration that has been used for centuries in the Islamic world to decorate ceramics, architecture, and textiles. Designs feature interlocking natural motifs such as leaves and flowers which are extended across a surface in geometric patterns.

Learn some history and symbolism and take home an Islimi style ceramic plate that you painted yourself!

This workshop will use bisque ceramic plates and food-safe underglaze paints. All supplies and tools will be provided.

All skills levels are encouraged to try it! (Ages 10+)
