The Rene Rivas Scholarship has been established in the memory of Rene Rivas to provide financial help to students enrolled at any of the Peralta Community College District's four campuses, Laney College, Merritt College, College of Alameda and Berkeley City College.
Rene was a dedicated Peralta Community College District employee for over 30 years. During his tenure, Rene held various positions throughout all four Peralta campuses, including working at the District office. Rene completed his career at Laney College as the Admissions and Records Supervisor. Rene dedicated his life to providing excellent student engagement support and collaborating with faculty, staff and administrators.
His memory was recently honored with an employee of the year award and the renaming of the Laney College Classified Senate Lounge.
Let’s continue to honor Rene’s passion to guide and mentor Peralta Community District students by easing the financial worry that may often accompany education.
