"I share my story so others know they are not alone."
Seize The Day follows the journey of Terah Williams, a 23- year old woman fighting for a normal life, despite a medical condition causing ongoing seizures, and the systemic racism she faces within broken social systems threatening to tear her life apart.
In 2015, 1.2% of the total US population had active epilepsy. This is about 3.4 million people with epilepsy nationwide: 3 million adults and 470,000 children. According to the National Brain Health Center for African-Americans, epilepsy is very common amongst African-Americans who account for nearly one-third of all who have been diagnosed as having epilepsy.
This personal portrait and emotionally driven story brings attention to the inequities of healthcare in the United States. Our film’s subject is catapulted into a desperate search for answers in a failed healthcare system. As a Black woman living in a state where medical marijuana use is prohibited, Terah struggles within a society that criminalizes the poor and underinsured. The documentary exposes the challenges which drive many to seek medical answers on their own. We feel strongly that Terah’s story will empower others from marginalized groups to continue to seek out and demand the healthcare and support they deserve.
